The Victorian Association of Forest Industries (VAFI) is the peak industry body of the native hardwood processing industry in Victoria. It was established in 1945 under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1904-1956 and represents its members' interests to government, the community and markets.
VAFI is a Registered Organisation under the Workplace Relations Act 1996, governed by a member elected President, management and Executive Committee.
The Association's vision is to ensure an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable future for Victoria's forest and wood products industry.
Our key policy and advocacy goals are to:
- Secure, grow and diversify the resource base available to industry;
- Ensure supply arrangements for native forest timber supply support an economically vialble industry and that land management arrangements support a sustainable industry and environmental, social and economic values;
- Maintain and improve market access and opportunities, investment and innovation;
- Ensure the climate change opportunities from forestry are understood and promoted, and timber and new forestry products gain increased market share as a result;
- Work towards ensuring the Victorian community understands and accepts the need for sustainable forest harvesting for timber products.
Funding
In the 2009/10 financial year, the VAFI derived funding from:
- membership fees;
- rent from property; and
- grants for project work.
