Following the announcement from the Victorian Government on the purchase of the Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH) mill at Heyfield, Tim Johnston, the CEO of the Victorian Association of Forest Industries (VAFI), the peak body for the forest, fibre, and wood products industry, has made the following statement:
VAFI welcomes the announcement of the agreement that has been reached on the sale of the Heyfield mill.
It is great to see that sawmilling, and associated wood manufacturing will continue in Heyfield, as it is a vital industry for both the local region and Victoria more broadly. It is also important to acknowledge the mill workers, and the wider Heyfield community, as this has been a difficult time for all involved.
